Tokyo University of Science professor Kaori Ito co-taught a collaborative workshop with Blaine Brownell at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture from August 26 to September 1, 2010. Students from both universities formed five multi-national teams in order to investigate the nature of public space in the Twin Cities. Using the short film as a medium, the student teams generated collaborative works of analysis and synthesis, communicating their discoveries and design suggestions for potential future enhancements. Dr. Ito gave a public lecture on August 26 entitled “Tokyo: Small Urban Spaces in the World’s Largest Urban Area,” and the School of Architecture hosted a farewell reception in the HGA Gallery on September 1. Lee Anderson, Jim Lutz, and Ignacio San-Martin presided as guest critics at the final review.
